Being a Web Designer

Being a web designer is, all-in-all, a pretty cool job. You get to play in Photoshop all day making pretty looking things, surf the internet, take YouTube breaks, you can virtually work anywhere there is a WiFi connection, drink Starbucks or Caribou all day. In addition, since it's part of the creative field, you're encouraged to listen to your iPod, wear shorts and sandals (or in my case, go barefoot), have funky haircuts and wear graphic tees. Well, maybe not encouraged to do all that, but I would like to think so.

All too often, potential and current clients come in and have the idea of constructing an all-flash based website. If you don't know what flash is vs. having a regular text and graphic based site, you're an idiot and I won't explain it now. In my opinion, which as I found out, is commonly shared with most web designers out there, an all-flash based website is just a horrible idea.

I found this flow chart that web designers can use on a case-to-case basis. I love it because it explores all avenues and the pros and cons of creating a flash website.
